This event addresses the influence of race and other categories of difference in the representation of the field of psychoanalysis in general and in the BGSP community in particular. This includes identifying emotional, ideological and structural levels that influence race, representation and experience. 

Speaker:

Donna-Lee Granville, Ph.D.  is a sociologist who studies, writes and teaches about issues of race, immigration, and culture. Her first book, Making Ameri-cants: How the USA Cripples its Future by Failing New Black Citizens, is under contract with New York University Press and examines the perceptions of belonging held by Afro-Caribbean naturalized U.S. citizens. Her current research projects include an exploration of  U.S. state surveillance in the lives of late 19th and early 20th century Afro-Caribbean migrants, and a study exploring the business and organizational side of hip-hop’s evolution. At CUNY Brooklyn College, Dr. Granville is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and also serves as the Assistant Director of the Roberta S. Matthews Center for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Granville is much sought after for her expertise in online teaching and learning and conducts private consultations and workshops for faculty through the CUNY School of Professional Studies and the Association of College and University Educators. In her spare time, she is also the organizer, licensee, and curator of TEDxFlatbush which held its first conference, MINDSHIFT, in October 2019.
